Batman The Animated Series On Sale

Batman the animated series was produced by Warner Brothers studios and debuted in September of 1992 and ran to September of 1995. Its animation style was dubbed dark deco characterized by art deco, film noir imagery with a dark color scheme. The series won four Emmy awards during its run and spawned many other films in what is described as the DC Universe. This program is seen as being closely modeled after the comic which debut in 1939.

Batman the animated series is based on the Bob Kane character, but few people realize that Batman had a co-creator Bill Finger who behind the scenes was instrumental in determining how Batman ultimately looked. When Bob Kane first developed the character design of Batman, Finger thought the charcter looked too much like Superman. One aspect of the character's costume Finger did not like was some reddish tights Kane had drawn on Batman. He had a small mask similar to the one the Robin character would ultimately don, wore boots and did not have gloves and swang on a rope. Finger subsequently advised that Batman should wear a cowl instead of the mask Kane had initially decided on and came up with the cowl having slits for the eyes which made the character look more mysterious and foreboding to criminals. Instead of the siff wings Kane had drawn, Finger came up with a cape that would flare out like wings when Batman would pounce on prey from above rooftops. Finger also added gloves to the character to remove the chances of Batman leaving any finger prints behind and eliminated the touches of red in the costume adding grey for a more ominous appearance.

Batman is of course the story of billionaire, initially millionaire playboy, philanthropist and industrialist Bruce Wayne. As a child Bruce was present when his parents were murdered by criminals and swore to avenge them by fighting crime where ever it reared its ugly head and serving the cause fo justice. Unlike many costume clad superhero's Batman does not posses any superpowers. He wages war on crime equiped with outstanding physical conditioning, is an expert martial artist, a master detective, an acute tactician, keen marksman, etc, etc....

Along the way Batman gets a crime fighting partner in young ward Dick Grayson, who has a similiar tragedy in his life . While part of a high wire act with his parents at a circus, someone tampers with their rigging causing them to plummet to their deaths. Grayson is taken in by Bruce Wayne and ultimately becomes Robin. They team up and become the dynamic duo waging war against the criminals who scourge Gotham City. One of Batman's allies is Police Commissioner Jim Gordon, whose daughter Barbara becomes a crime fighter too known as Batgirl. Batman faces a host of costume clad villians such as the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler and Mr. Freeze and Catwoman. They are all on display in Batman the Animated Series.
